Scrubs & Scrubs Med School
Scrubs is a witty, satisfying comedy that's episodes generally revolve around the hospital and medical issues rather than the characters' personal lives. The first 8 seasons of Scrubs stared an ensemble cast that most consistently featured Zach Braff as Dr. John 'J.D.' Dorian, Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot Reid, Donald Faison as Dr. Christopher Turk, Neil Flynn as The Janitor, John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox, Ken Jenkins as Dr. Bob Kelso, Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla Espinosa, Robert Maschio as Dr. Todd Quinlan and Sam Lloyd as Ted Buckland. Season 9 brings a new format to the show and several new cast members, most notably Michael Mosley as Drew Suffin, Dave Franco as Cole Aaronson and Kerry Bishé as Lucy Bennett. Eliza Coupe returns from season 8 (the only surviving intern character) to reprise her role as Denise Mahoney.
Scrubs to change format for Season 9

So far, Zach Braff has had insane amount of screen time on Season 9 of Scrubs, which was the direct opposite of everything we read about what the new format would mean for Scrubs. They put him in the opening sequence, for crying out loud! However, in episode 3, Our Role Models, Zach Braff's character, Dr. Dorian, did tell medical student Lucy Bennett that he would leave, but he didn't say when. Maybe they're just trying to get us comfortable with the new characters: Bennett, Drew Suffin (aka Numer 1) and Cole Aaronson. With the exclusion of Dr. Murphy, we're missing all of the interns from season 8, most regrettably, Sunny. The writing is still pretty good and the cast is gelling, so it's all good with the new format - so far.

What has several thumbs and doesn't need Zach Braff for it's 9th season? The cast of Scrubs.
Scrubs will undergo a radical shift for season 9, as the interns from the previous season take center stage and new characters emerge. But, take heart; some cast members will return, so you'll still get your dose of Dr. Turk and Dr. Kox... or, from what we read, Professors Turk and Kox. Not exactly sure how this is going to work... Whether or not the new format is entertaining remains to be seen, but we believe that, as with most entertainment endeavors, the responsibility will fall, for the most part, on the shoulders of the writing team to make the show successful as many actors from season 8 are returning and their skills are not in question.
Scrubs will debut season 9 on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC and a second episode at 9:30. [November, 2009]
