Oliver Stone's bio pic on President George W. Bush is not what you'd expect - after his other excursions into the world of American politics, you'd think this would be a hard hitting, critical analysis. Instead, it tries to take a relatively honest look at a relatively honest man. This film won't satisfy Democrats, who'll say Stone was too soft on Bush (that's hilarious, by the way) and Republicans, who'll feel that Stone took some cheap shots at the commander in chief's intelligence during a presidential election campaign, even if it's not Bush's.
James Cromwell pretty much does what he always does as George H. W. Bush, not really trying to channel the former one term president. Josh Brolin, on the other hand, goes all the way in the title roll, mastering the delivery, mannerisms and even the squint of George W. Bush, the two term powerhouse.
The film does much more to vilify George W. Bush's cabinet then the president himself; the movie goes on to make two points:

highlight for spoilers
George W. Bush didn't drop the ball, he just lost in the lights. (that's also hilarious)
W. ruined his brother Jeb's chance to be President. (probably true)

We found W to be a fun, interesting look at George W. Bush's presidency from an angle that we haven't seen it from before.
