We'll keep this short because frankly, we just don't feel that this movie deserves much coverage. The fact is, everyone knows what happened to John Dillinger and the other mythic criminals the movie shows a brief glimpse of, and when you adopt well known episodes of history to the screen, you better do it well - and this was not well done. The prison break during the beginning of the film was fun, but the movie grinds along slowly and leaves you feeling board, frustrated, and ready to head home early. There are some good performances, and we'd love to say Johnny Depp's Dillinger was memorable, but not especially... just another one of his 'jacket and mustache' roles. On the other hand, Christian Bale makes a pretty good cop, with or without a cape. We wouldn't watch Public Enemies again.
