No Country for Old Men
Score: 4 out of 5
No Country for Old Men had movie stars, but it wasn't overwhelming; it had violence, strong language and what not, but it didn't overshadow. The audience we saw the film with seemed to be left wanting more, but we're not sure what they wanted. We felt all the plot threads were resolved. Sure, we would have liked more character development, but the movie works. There seemed to be a lot of whispering in the house ("I'm explaining the plot as best and as quietly as I can, honey."), although we're not sure what needed further explanation. We strongly recommend this film.
Oscars
Best Picture
Best Director (Joel and Ethan Coen)
Best Adapted Screenplay (Joel and Ethan Coen)
Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh)
This was a tough year with stiff competition, but No Country for Old Men came out on top with acting, directing and best picture awards - can't really top that. Javier Bardem gave a chilling performance as Anton Chigurh, but, for the most part, it was an ensemble movie that didn't especially highlight one performance. Very well done, and well deserved awards.
