The Mets slapped a jersey on Santana, and so it begins - a new era. You can see the story about the introduction here.
$137.5 million and a relocation to the east coast are what's new in Santana's life, but the Mets still need to sure up that bullpen. It's all for nothing if they blow it in the late innings.
Mets Twins deal for Johan Santana almost done
The Mets and Twins have worked out a deal for Johan Santana - now the Mets just need to sign him to a contract extension - check out the MLB article here.
Is this a good pick up for the Mets? Yes - Santana is probably the best pitcher in the game right now. But is this enough for the Mets? We don't think so. Sure, it may look like they have 6 starters right now, but we all know that neither Pedro Martinez nor Orlando Hernandez can make a year's worth of starts. We would count them, in terms of the number of starts a pitcher has to make, as capable of making the amount of starts one pitcher is expected of making. And we don't have a lot of confidence in the rest of their starters.
And now, a message for Johan Santana
Dear Mr. Santana,
Welcome to New York! We are very excited about the prospect of watching you pitch up close on a regular basis. We think the Mets, along with any other team, would be lucky to count you as a member of their staff.
We did want to let you in on our primary concern - who's going to pitch the 8th inning? We don't think much of the Mets bullpen, and we foresee a lot of leads getting blown by the mid and 8th inning relief. We hope this doesn't happen, but we feel this is a burden you may come to bare while pitching in the shadow of Mr. Met.
By the way, your change up rocks!
Good Luck,

Mets interested in Japanese right handed starter
Sigh. The NYPost is reporting that the Mets have interest in Hiroki Kuroda, a right handed starting pitcher who is 32 years old and currently pitching in the Japanese League. We know the Mets need starters, but Japanese starters don't exactly have a seller history in the MLB. On the other hand, the National League is pretty terrible. Check out the article at the NY Post.
The Mets need starting pitching and they don't have a lot of prospects to trade for any of the big three guys available, so they're attempting to tap into the eastern free agent market. While we do believe this is the wave of the future for relief pitchers, we're not sold on starters yet. It blew up in the Yankees face (twice) and we're not huge Dice K fans. The Mets really need to find an ace and we don't think this is the answer. We think they should concentrate on a trade with Oakland or Baltimore.
Mets trade Lastings Milledge for uhm, another catcher and some other guy
OK, we never thought that Lastings Milledge was the cat's pajamas, but jeez, did the Mets really want him out of town this badly? Now, they have 3 catchers and the brought in this other guy (uhm, not pictured)... We don't get this move, unless the Mets decided that whatever positives Lastings brings to the team are overshadowed by his immaturity and off field antics, but, again, jeez! People are comparing him to Gary Sheffield. Didn't he deserve a chance? Guess Omar Minaya thinks not. Check out the article on here, check the Mets official site here.
Mets lose out on free agent Glavine to Braves
Perhaps in an effort to find some synergy for his career, Tom Glavine will sign a 1 year deal with the Braves, his first team (as reported by MLB.com). This makes the Mets starting pitching even thinner (not that Glavine was great) and the need to find an ace all the more pressing. Read the story here.
Mets sign Torrealba
He's dependable behind the plate, bu his bat leaves a lot to be desired. Yorvit Torrealba's 2007 numbers: avg. .255; 8 HR; 47 RBI. In Coors Field. Mike Piazza he is not. Check out the Mets' site.
